NASA recently found interesting information on dwarf planet called Ceres, which in turn shows that life could possibly really exist there. Could this odd planet with Earth-like characteristics often be home to extra-terrestrial life?
Water Found on Dwarf Planet
A investigation published by NASA scientists last month 16 revealed the discovery involving organic molecules containing carbon and other building blocks of lifetime on the dwarf planet Ceres. The development study, which was published while in the Science Journal, says that the organic compounds found on Ceres’ surface seem to be native to the planet and have most probably developed there instead of being took from space by a comet or even an asteroid.
Since Ceres is a small planet, it is likely to retain most of its intrinsic heat from the period of it is formation. The planet may also hide secret oceans buried heavy under its surface, which might open new doors for the possibility of sustaining life. Although if the planet already contains the essential building blocks of life, might it also be home to basic creatures?
Planetary scientist Michael Kppers from European Space Astronomy Centre is certain that it is highly likely. The research team believes there could be more areas on Ceres abundant in organic molecules that could keep life on this dwarf planet. Researchers explain that the planet may be hiding organics at a subsurface level below Dawn’s detection limit.
Although the infra-red detection system in Dawning isn’t precise enough to recognize what exactly the organic molecules found on the surface of Ceres are, people think that their characteristics will be consistent with some of the familiar and also carbon substances such as asphaltite and kerite.
Scientists are convinced the organics found on Ceres probably participate in the dwarf planet itself for the reason that had they been brought there by a comet or an asteroid, any extremely high temperature from the impact would have destroyed their molecular formula.
Researchers are speculating that Ceres’ organics must have formed due to reaction with water or steam in the subsurface level but no one is confident why the hydrothermal activity manifesting deep underground is making organics above the surface. The high-resolution information received by the scientists continues to be under investigation, and it will take a long time before NASA finds answers as to why Ceres is so special of course, if humans could inhabit a dwarf planet one day.
